# Actions reference

> Every Reason Remote action you can drop on a key or a dial, what it does, and which settings it has.

Source: https://www.reasonremote.com/guide/actions/
Applies to: Reason Remote 1.4.0, Reason Remote Lite 1.3.0

Drag these from the **Reason Remote** category in the Stream Deck app. The same actions are in Lite and the full version.

Navigation actions (Status, Document, Master, Piano, tracks, Current Instrument) always switch the **first Stream Deck +** connected. **Reason Encoder** and **Reason Channel Strip** go on dials. Every other action goes on a key.

> **Important:** On the profiles Reason Remote installs, don't add, delete or reorder pages. Auto-follow opens pages by position. Putting these actions on empty keys, or into a profile you built yourself, is safe. See [the rules](https://www.reasonremote.com/guide/customize/#the-rules).

## Reason Remote Status

Shows the last device the plugin heard about and which profile it switched to. It does not control Reason. Drop it on any empty key when something is wrong. See [Troubleshooting](https://www.reasonremote.com/guide/troubleshooting/#start-with-the-status-key).

Settings: none. The key is a readout.

## Open Document

Opens the [Document](https://www.reasonremote.com/guide/document/) page. It also sets the touch-strip hold so that holding the strip alternates between your instrument and Document.

Settings: none.

The **Document** key on a hub uses this. Holding the strip on an instrument page does the same trip once Document is the hold target.

## Return from Document

Goes back to the instrument you selected most recently.

Settings: none.

## Open Master

Opens the [Master](https://www.reasonremote.com/guide/master/) mixer.

Settings: none.

The **Mix** key on the Document page uses this.

## Return from Master

Goes back to the **Document** landing page, not straight to the instrument. Hold the touch strip on Master if you want the instrument instead.

Settings: none.

## Current Instrument

Shows the selected device. Press the key to open that device's pages.

Settings: none.

The **Go** key on the Document page does this job: its picture follows the selection, and a press opens the pages.

## Track Previous

Selects the previous track in Reason's sequencer.

Settings: none.

**Prev** on the Document page is this action. It is a good spare key on the Master page, which ships with empty keys.

## Track Next

Selects the next track in Reason's sequencer.

Settings: none.

**Next** on the Document page is this action.

## Open Piano

Opens the [Piano](https://www.reasonremote.com/guide/piano/). It also sets the touch-strip hold so that holding the strip alternates between your instrument and the Piano.

Settings: none.

## Reason Encoder

A dial with one to four parameters, and up to eight banks of those parameters. This is the dial on instrument pages and on most of the Document page.

The settings panel is the whole of [Dial settings](https://www.reasonremote.com/guide/dial-settings/#reason-encoder): ports, how many parameters, what a press does, colours, per-slot MIDI, and banks. On a bundled dial, change looks only. The CC and channel have to stay what the codec expects.

## Reason Channel Strip

A dial that draws faders and meters. Used for the four dials on the [Master](https://www.reasonremote.com/guide/master/) page, and for Master Level on the Document page.

Settings: MIDI ports, how many channels the dial holds (1 to 4), and the green, amber and red meter colours. The Master surface uses `loopMIDI Port 3` out and `loopMIDI Port 4` in. See [Reason Channel Strip](https://www.reasonremote.com/guide/dial-settings/#reason-channel-strip).

## Combinator Pad

One Combinator button. The label, colour and whether it is shown come from the [layout file](https://www.reasonremote.com/guide/combinator-layout-file/) for the current patch. Editing the pad in the Property Inspector writes that file.

Settings: label, colours, shown or hidden.

## Combinator Layout

The **Layout** key on the [Combinator](https://www.reasonremote.com/guide/combinator/) page. It shows which layout is in use.

| Gesture | What it does |
|---|---|
| Press once | Opens the layout file in your editor |
| Press twice | Creates a layout for the selected Combinator and opens it |
| Hold | Opens the layouts folder |

Settings, in the Property Inspector:

- Patch folders to search, one per line, on top of the User Library and Packs folders
- **Generate layouts from the patch file**
- **Generate from patch file**, to rebuild the current layout
- **Re-target the Combinator after a patch change**, so the deck learns which controls the new patch uses without you clicking away and back

See [Combinator layouts](https://www.reasonremote.com/guide/combinator-layouts/).

## MIDI Toggle

An on/off key, such as an oscillator's **On** or **Phase Sync**. It lights when the setting is on, including when you change it in Reason.

Settings: none in the app. Copy a switch key from an instrument page rather than building one from an empty action. The copied key already has the controller the codec expects.

## Reason Note

One piano key. It plays for as long as you hold it, on MIDI channel 1, through the Stream Deck+ Remote surface. **Master Keyboard** has to be ticked for that surface or the note is silent.

Settings: none in the app. The eight keys are already set up on the [Piano](https://www.reasonremote.com/guide/piano/) page. The bottom-right key is not a note. It is Reason Note Mode.

## Reason Octave

One of the Piano's keys, alongside Reason Note and Reason Note Mode. The octave you hear is dial 1 on that page (`OCT +3` at rest). This action has no settings panel of its own.

Settings: none in the app. The Piano page already has its keys. Copy that page rather than assembling a piano from empty actions.

## Reason Note Mode

The Piano's bottom-right key. A press switches the seven note keys between **Keys** and **Chords**. Hold it for 0.7 seconds and the deck goes to the Document landing page. The key's label shows the mode, and `HOLD - HOME` for the hold.

Settings: none in the app. Chord type, gate and latch are dial 4 on the Piano, not settings of this action. See [the Piano dials](https://www.reasonremote.com/guide/piano/#the-dials).
